User Agreement

Effective and last updated

The terms for using our participant accounts, project tools, and connected apps.

The essentials

This agreement is between you and Maximizing Potential. It covers participant accounts, project submissions, demo hosting, and connected apps that use these terms.

  • Your work stays yours. Submission does not transfer ownership to us, judges, sponsors, or community partners.
  • A public summary is part of entry. You approve the title, short description, challenge, and team or contributor credit before submitting.
  • You choose the extras. Public demo hosting and sharing additional details or links are separate choices. Your contact email and individual judge scorecards stay private.
  • Our permission is limited. We may judge your entry, display the materials you approve, host your approved demo, and identify the project in event results. Promotion and other uses need separate permission.
  • You can request removal. We explain any effect during judging. Removing a page after results does not itself cancel an earned award.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. Our Terms of Service cover general service use and legal responsibilities. This User Agreement controls project ownership, judging, publication permissions, and removal if the documents conflict. Creating an account or connecting an assistant does not itself publish a project. You must approve the submission yourself.

Your account and eligibility

You must be at least 13 to use participant accounts. If you are below the age at which you can enter this agreement where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to it for your use. Each event may have additional eligibility rules.

Use accurate account information and an email address you may use. Protect passwords, sign-in codes, and connected accounts. Do not impersonate someone or access another person's account without permission. Contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

Connected platforms have their own eligibility rules. LinkedIn requires members to be at least 16, or older where applicable law requires. Choose another available sign-in method if you do not meet those requirements.

Your work and your team

You and any other existing rights holders keep your rights in the project. You may continue developing it, publish elsewhere, license it, or turn it into a business, subject to team agreements and others' rights. You do not have to release your code under an open-source license to use our showcase.

Submit only material you own or have permission to use and share. Follow licenses and credit requirements for code, images, tools, datasets, and other material. If you submit for a team, obtain permission for its work and public credit. Being the submitter does not make you the owner of everyone else's work.

We use the team name and contributor names or aliases you approve. We will not imply that participants endorse us or a sponsor. A teammate can contact us directly about incorrect credit, unwanted personal information, or disputed permission. We may temporarily hide affected content while reviewing a concern.

Drafts and judging

Uploading a draft allows us and the providers operating our service to store and process it for the submission workflow. Drafts are not publicly listed. When you submit for judging, you allow authorized organizers and judges to view, run, and evaluate the submitted materials.

Nonpublic submission details are restricted to the people and providers who need them for the service and event. Judges must use those materials only for evaluation and event administration, keep private materials confidential, and report conflicts of interest. Judging gives no permission to develop, sell, or deploy your project.

Provide enough material for judges to assess your work. You may use our demo hosting, an external demo, or another demonstration method accepted under the event rules. Declining optional public details, our hosting, or promotional use does not by itself lower your score or affect prize eligibility.

Deadlines, eligibility, judging criteria, and prizes are described for each event. An account or submission does not guarantee admission, an award, funding, employment, or ongoing hosting. Contact an organizer if a requirement is unclear or you need an accessible way to submit or present.

Your public project page and demo

Entry normally includes a public summary: your project title, short description, selected challenge, team name, and approved contributor credit. Review these fields before approving publication. Contact us before publishing if you need a privacy accommodation, reduced summary, or alternative credit. We review requests individually.

Longer descriptions, community-benefit and technology details, tags, dependencies, and demo, repository, or video links are public only when you approve sharing those additional materials. Otherwise, they remain available for authorized judging. Information you put inside a public summary, linked service, or app can still be visible.

We offer public hosting for compatible browser apps. If you approve it, we serve the listed app files so visitors can run your demo and may display an automatically generated screenshot of that public demo. Other projects may use an external host. Our built-in host does not run your server or database.

For materials you approve, you give us permission to copy, store, display, and deliver them for the project showcase and chosen hosting. We may make ordinary formatting, accessibility, or technical adjustments that preserve their meaning. Our hosting providers may do this work for us. We may identify the project title and approved credit in ordinary event results.

This permission is nonexclusive: you may publish elsewhere and give others permission. People may access the site worldwide. We do not owe a licensing fee for this limited hosting and display permission; prizes and paid collaborations have their own terms.

Your page may remain available after the event for portfolio use and sharing, until you request removal or we end hosting. We aim to keep it useful, but cannot promise permanent or uninterrupted hosting. Keep your own copies. We will give reasonable advance notice of a planned hosting shutdown when practicable.

What public access allows

Anyone may view a public project page, share its link, and use its demo in the ordinary way. Public access does not give a general right to copy, adapt, sell, or redistribute the project. A separate license you choose and rights available under applicable law still apply.

Files delivered to visitors' browsers, including HTML, JavaScript, images, and other hosted files, can be viewed or downloaded. A private repository does not make those delivered files private. Review your files, remove passwords and access keys, and use sample data instead of sensitive personal information.

Uses that need separate permission

This agreement does not authorize us or event partners to sell your project, use it to run an organization or serve customers, claim ownership, or use your submission to train an AI model. A community partner that wants to adopt a prototype must make a separate agreement with its rights holders about permission, credit, responsibilities, and any payment.

Beyond ordinary event results and sharing an already public page link, we will ask before using project materials or identifiable photos or recordings of you in social posts, advertising, fundraising appeals, or sponsor promotions. That request will explain the materials, purpose, channels, and duration. You may decline without affecting judging or prize eligibility.

Optional sign-in and assistant connections

Sign-in providers and coding assistants are optional. Review their permissions before connecting. Provider sign-in identifies your account; it does not authorize us to post to your profile, manage a LinkedIn Page, read private messages, or access your mailbox or repositories.

An assistant may perform the tasks on its approval screen, such as preparing a draft or uploading files. Review its work. Your assistant cannot approve publication for you. Revoke connections through your account or follow our data-deletion instructions.

External hosts, repositories, assistants, and sign-in platforms have their own terms. This agreement does not change those terms. LinkedIn Page-management tools, if made available, require separate authorization by an entitled Page administrator; participant sign-in does not activate them.

Respect other people and their work

Do not upload malicious software, steal credentials, expose private information, infringe others' rights, harass or threaten people, manipulate judging, or bypass access controls. Do not use deceptive forms or misleading claims.

Test your project and describe its limitations accurately. Projects may be experimental. Do not present a prototype as a reliable emergency, medical, legal, or financial service when it is not equipped to provide one. Hosting or linking to a project does not mean we endorse its claims or guarantee its security or performance.

Corrections, removal, and withdrawal

You may request corrections, removal of personal information, or removal from the showcase at any time. Email maximizing.potential.admin@gmail.com with your project link and request. We may need to verify your identity or authority.

During judging, withdrawing from the event removes your public page and demo and ends the entry's judging eligibility. If you need a privacy accommodation while keeping your entry, contact us first. We will explain any effect on evaluation or eligibility and consider an alternative. You do not have to keep material public against your wishes.

Once results are finalized or awards are published, the showcase-removal control in your submission hides the page, hosted app, and screenshot without changing an earned award. Ordinary event results may retain the project title and approved credit without linking to the removed page. Contact us about unwanted personal information in those records.

Permission to display your project page, demo, and screenshot ends when you withdraw it. We stop new display under that permission and remove those showcase materials from services we control. Ordinary event-result records may retain the limited title and approved credit described above, subject to personal-information requests. Limited private submission approvals and event or judging records may remain for administration, disputes, security, or legal requirements, as explained in the Privacy Policy. Keeping those records does not authorize promotion or commercial use. Other people or search engines may have saved public copies outside our control.

Removing a project does not close your account. Account closure separately removes account access and connected sign-in data and explains which event records remain. Save your work and coordinate with teammates first.

We may remove content or restrict access to address harmful content, misuse, a rights complaint, security, or legal requirements. When circumstances allow, we explain the reason and give you an opportunity to respond or request review. Urgent problems may require action first.

Changes and help

We post changes with a new date and notify affected participants of material changes through the website or account contact information. New submissions require acceptance of the current agreement. Updating these terms does not expand permission for an existing submission; a new use needs permission from its rights holders.

Nothing here removes protections that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. Event registration and donor relationships are separate; our Donor Bill of Rights and Privacy Policy continues to apply to donations.
